BLADE: It has 3 hollow sides, of triangular section. The 3 edges meet to form the point. It seems that this is the original blade and not a re-use of a sword blade that was shortened. Length of the blade = 26.8 cm, Width near the guard = 1.8 cm, thickness near the guard = 6.8 mm
GUARD: it is a curious oval-shaped guard, which is finely chiseled on both sides. The decoration shows two ellipses of concentric light grains in relief (silver or polished steel?). Between these two geometric figures, the chiseling of the guard seems at first glance to show a radiant sun, but a careful examination with a magnifying glass shows that what appear to be rays are in fact cypress branches. The cypress in Italy is associated with the relationship between the dead and the living, and it is a symbol of immortality.
POMMEL: It is in the shape of a fluted olive, with 3 wider edges in the extension of the edges of the blade. It is topped with a button that seems to be screwed onto the tang of the blade.
GRIP: it is made up of a stack of hexagonal horn washers. Hexagonal iron ferrules finish each end of the handle.
In conclusion, the quality of execution of this weapon is obvious, particularly at the level of the guard. I have no clear explanation for the particularities that were chosen during its manufacture. Dagger belonging to a secret society? Fantasy of a rich nobleman? Late left hand?
With its mystery, it remains a beautiful object, at a reasonable price.
