"Emilio Boggio : "venice""
Emilio Boggio (1857-1920): "Venice", oil on panel 27 X 34 cm, mounted in a "RG" frame in the Regency style with white Marie-Louise. Panel slightly tiled, cut by one centimeter on the left. Circa 1905/10. Revealed by cleaning, the bright colors of the work are supported by a crushed and generous paste. An amateur "restorer" did not hesitate, in the past, to cut it on the left side to make it fit into a bad frame, thereby amputating part of the signature! As a result, the end being difficult to read, we could only distinguish the two "g"s and, on the back of the frame there were annotations attributing it to another artist: Boggs who has absolutely nothing to do with it... Born in Caracas, he nevertheless spent most of his career in France, with trips to Venezuela and Italy. Friend of Monet, Pissarro and Henri Martin, admirer of Van Gogh, he forged a personal style that influenced a whole generation of Venezuelan artists.
