"Large 19th Century Marine Painting Romanticism Shipwreck Animated Boat Sv Gudin Isabey Signed "
Old large 19th century oil painting on canvas signed lower left Jules Fraissac dated 1838, representing a view of the shore animated by a character sheltered by rocks, scrutinizing other passengers of a boat capsizing in the distance on a rough sea. Very beautiful evocation of the seascapes of the early 19th century in the style of Vernet or Lacroix of Marseille. A small restoration in the sky at the top right, otherwise good condition, painting cleaned on its original canvas. Period frame in wood gilded with gold leaf (small jumps in gilding) The romantic current of rough seas and storms in the 19th century is well captured in our painting, to be compared with the compositions of Gudin, Isabey, Victor Hugo, Courbet, Turner and romantic painters such as Théodore Géricault or Horace Vernet. Total dimensions: 110 cm x 86 cm, canvas only 92 cm x 67 cm.
