"Late 16th Century Oil Painting On Panel Madonna With Jesus And John "
Beautiful oil painting on wooden catwood panel. The painting has an almost Leonardesque background, characterized by a temple and distant mountains that recall the Holy Land. In the foreground, the Madonna is depicted seated, with a halo and her head covered by a veil. She wears a soft dress, over which a blue cloak is draped. With one arm she supports the Baby Jesus, naked and covered only by a light veil, also with a halo and in an almost blessing attitude. On the left, at the feet of the Madonna, there is a third character with a halo: it is Saint John as a child, holding a flower in his hand. Above them, two children without halos, probably the children of the person who commissioned the work, participate in the scene. The great pictorial mastery that is evident in the details and composition of the scene gives the work a sweet and elegant atmosphere. The painting is attributed to a painter of the Tuscan school of the late 16th century.
