Beautiful bright and high-contrast work by the Marseille painter Paul Simons which depicts one of the city of Menton in the Alpes-Maritimes.
In the foreground, we can see boats in the city's port and in the background, a view of the old town of Menton, including the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
The painter used a palette of colors with shades of pink that perfectly captures the atmosphere of the place.
A student of Luc Olivier Merson and Jean-Paul Laurens, Paul Simons exhibited at the Salon des Artistes français from 1886 to 1897.
His submissions of Mediterranean landscapes with different tones depending on the seasons and times of day were critically acclaimed.
$In 1902, Paul Simons was appointed official painter of the navy.
Note: A very, very small old restoration, without impact, is visible on the back of the canvas.
Dimensions: 38 x 55 cm without frame and 70 x 53 cm with its original carved and gilded wooden frame.
