Pierre BRETTE (1905-1961) Lambézellec "Fishing in the Chausey Islands" watercolor signed and located bottom left, official painter of the Navy. Pierre Brette spent a large part of his life in the West of France, in Brittany and Normandy. Watercolorist, he painted and drew the landscapes of these regions: seascapes, ports, boats, fishing scenes, sunken roads, dunes, moors, landscapes ... He met Marin-Marie in 1946, who encouraged him and incited him to exhibit at the Salon de la Marine. He participated in 1945, 1946, from 1948 to 1951, from 1954 to 1957, and from 1959 to 1961. He received a medal of honor there, and was posthumously appointed official painter of the Navy in 1962. He is a member of the Société des artistes bas-normands, the École française[ and the Salon des artistes français. Public collections have acquired his works, including the Musée national de la Marine in Paris in 1958 and 1959. The Musée d'art et d'histoire de Granville and the Musée de Normandie have many works by Pierre Brette. He is buried in Granville.
