Marbled Painted Wood Travel Altar – Religious Art

Beautiful painted wooden altar with a marbled effect and central floral decoration surrounding a painted bird.
It could be used during religious services during "burning chapels" (funeral ceremonies) or in the fields and countryside during the Feasts of Pardon or open-air masses, as could be done during the late 19th to early 20th centuries. But also during catechism.

Used condition.
Some cracks in the wood due to time and its recurring use, and some flaking of paint (Detailed photos at the end of the slideshow). The choice was made to leave it as is, which makes it a beautiful, unusual collector's item and a witness to a past of devotion.
