This harmonious sculpture has, beyond its undeniable aesthetics, a significant emotional charge. A young couple, probably newlyweds, kiss tenderly and all the symbolism of love is revealed without us really paying attention to it. Indeed, their heads are only the wedding rings they have just put on their fingers and the overall structure of the sculpture is itself a ring. This work by Martel was made and distributed by Austin Sculpture. If it were made of bronze, Austin Sculpture would be the founder. The signature of this house founded in 1952 in Brooklyn, New York, is also present on the rear base along with the creation date 1991. Initially, Austin Sculpture specialized in the reproduction of ancient statuary before quickly turning to the distribution of original works by contemporary artists. The material used is a very hard terracota that allows the extreme finesse of the work to be respected. Let us note in passing the details of the man's face, the eye barely sketched while the kissing mouth is finely drawn. The young woman's long, coiled hair surprises us with the rendering of its heaviness. The old bronze patina is most beautiful on this very modern sculpture.
