Mathis PICARD (1854 Limoges – 1938 Biarritz) "Vallée de Lesponne – Massif de la Bizourtère" Oil on panel signed lower left L: 33.5 cm x H: 25.5 cm Mathis Picard born Mathurin Picard in Limoges (Haute-Vienne) on January 18, 1854, died in Biarritz (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) on March 22, 1938, is a landscape watercolorist with a very personal technique in his achievements. A painter on enamel since 1864, when he was 10 years old, he was a student of Corot from 1870 to 1874, Pelouse, Daubigny and Harpignies. He became a drawing teacher in Paris (Beaux-Arts). In 1879 and 1880, he presented portraits on enamel at the Paris Salon. In 1909, he was awarded a medal at the American exhibition "Paintings" for his watercolors. He also exhibited his watercolors in Nantes (1909-1910) and at the Palais Bellevue in Biarritz (June 1911). He participated in the Salon of the Society of Friends of the Arts of Bordeaux (59th exhibition) in 1911, at the International Exhibition in Bayonne (1923), exhibited at the Galerie du Grand Hôtel in Roubaix (1924: 38 paintings, 62 watercolors), in Verviers (1928: 9 oils, 42 watercolors), at the Galerie des Orfèvres in Paris (1963: 38 watercolors, 20 drawings).
