Charles-Henri Contencin (1898 -1955) born in Paris but raised in the Bernese Oberland, he will remain a mountain enthusiast, member of the French Alpine Club, he joined the Society of Mountain Painters in 1929 and will be its president from 1954 to 1955. he participates in many exhibitions: Salon des Indépendants from 1927 to 1938, Salon des Artistes Français, Salon de l'Ecole Française. He specializes in rendering the effects of light on snow and glaciers, and will create many high mountain landscapes, his favorite places will be the Ecrins massifs as well as Mont Blanc, its environment and the great Alpine massifs.
