Resting on 4 arched legs joined by a sinuous belt, they offer a wide and deep seat. The recessed armrests have a beautiful arch called "coup de fouet", elegantly pronounced.
The flat backrest, also pleasantly designed, is decorated with a sculpture of foliage and flowers in the upper crossbar, reminiscent of that of the seat crossbar.
They are covered with an old petit point upholstery that would deserve to be redone by an upholsterer. The structure of the seats is stable and in very good condition.
Work from Lyon by PIerre NOGARET (not stamped), circa 1765.
Originally waxed and unpainted, these armchairs have all the characteristics of Nogaret's work, both in form and sculpture. This type of "coup de fouet" exclusively from Lyon, allows to recognize the author easily, and to propose a dating around 1765. A similar pair sold in Paris by the Choppin study of Janvry on 27-09-2002, and stamped NOGARET in Lyon is reproduced in the last photograph.
Width: 66 cm.

We would like to thank Mr Olivier Walas for his research and expertise work regarding the attribution to PIerre NOGARET.
