"Gustave Vidal (1895-1966) Landscape At The Old Bridge - Corsica"
The technique of painting with a knife perfectly mastered, an alternation of material and reserves of the wooden panel. A solid drawing and a spontaneous and effective gesture for this work by the Avignon painter Gustave Vidal. The work in good condition is offered in a pretty sculpted frame which measures 69 cm by 77 cm and 46 cm by 55 cm for the panel alone. It represents three men discussing on a Genoese bridge over a river in a mountainous landscape in Corsica where the artist had his habits. Bright, lively and full of charm, this bucolic work is signed lower right.
A student at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Avignon, he depicts here a coastal landscape animated by two characters, certainly in Corsica where the artist was a regular.
A very beautiful light emerges from the work of this artist who was a painter of landscapes, seascapes and an illustrator.
He participated in Paris in the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he was a member and exhibited in the south of France, in Berlin, Brussels, etc...
He painted landscapes of Provence, the Basque country, Corsica and the interior of France,
he illustrated La Camargue et le vieux Avignon books for which he wrote the texts.
