"Maurice Utrillo-rue Saint Rustiche- 1910 About"
Small painting depicting a glimpse of Montmartre, 'Rue Saint Rustiche that the painter portrayed many times, capturing different suggestions at different times and periods. About twelve are the known oil paintings of this same street. This small painting is certainly among the first realizations of this subject. The white walls, illuminated by the sun, are obtained by mixing the color with the glue and denote his first pictorial period, probably around 1905-10. The period is confirmed by the type of canvas cardboard and by the oxide given by natural aging. Interesting is Utrillo's technique of portraying the side walls of the street, inclined and oblique towards the top, widening the view to obtain greater depth and breath. Our painting was formerly shrunk to fit into this nice nineteenth-century frame, certainly by an inexperienced person, who to narrow it cut the lower part, where the signature of our author should have been. There are also multiple prints that follow this same path, made up until the 50s. Montmartre was almost an obsession for our painter, but the creations of his first period bring an energy and an intensity, which will fade over the years.Technical and scientific examinations have been carried out on the painting to guarantee its epochal originality and absolute compatibility with the Author
