Object description :

"Mid 19th Century Cloisonné Enamel Clock Garniture Set, Circa 1860"
This clock garniture set is a magnificent example of the art of clockmaking, typical of 19th century luxury pieces, strongly inspired by the Louis XV style. Its cloisonné enamel decoration in mainly turquoise with floral motifs reveals high quality goldsmith work. The bright colours, particularly shades of blue, green and pink, evoke the champlevé enamel techniques, highly prized in the 19th century for their luxurious and sophisticated effects.

The clock is mounted on a base supported by four feet which gives it elegant stability. The body of the clock is flanked by two finely chiseled gilded putti, with subtle details in the expressions, highlighting the high quality French craftsmanship. The upper part of the clock, which evokes an ornamental vase, is also decorated with floral motifs in cloisonné enamel. It is topped with a finely worked cover which completes the sumptuous appearance of the piece.

The two gilt bronze and cloisonné enamel candelabras each consist of two beautifully decorated light arms supported by gilt bronze putti. Each is positioned in a graceful posture, holding the base of the light arms, with finely chiseled wings that add a touch of elegance and harmony. The bases of the candelabra are decorated in cloisonné enamel in shades of turquoise, blue and pink, with floral motifs. The contrast between the turquoise colour of the enamel and the gilt of the bronze creates a striking visual effect, enhancing the overall elegance of the piece. The light arms end with bobeches also decorated with cloisonné enamel, echoing the motifs on the base, and are finely carved in the shape of acanthus leaves and scrolls. Each candelabra has two candlesticks, giving them an elegant and balanced symmetry.
