"Important Fireplace Plaque With The Coat Of Arms Of La Palud / Le Hardy Du Fay De La Trousse (135x117 Cm)"
Very important fireplace plate dated 1701, from the 18th century, lettered C and T, with the alliance arms of Claude-Jacques de La Palud (1614/18-1692/98) Count of Bouligneux, advisor to the king, captain-lieutenant of 200 men-at-arms of Queen Anne of Austria and of Marie-Henriette le Hardy du Fay de la Trousse (1636-1720), Countess of Bouligneux, Meilly, Rouvres, etc…Aunt of Mme de Sévigné. An illustrious family since at least 1151 with Pierre de La Palud, Lord of Varembon, then Pierre, famous doctor of the Sorbonne, made Patriarch of Jerusalem by Pope John XXII in 1329 and Jean elected to the nobility of the Duchy of Burgundy in 1630. A Parisian hotel, called the Hôtel de Bouligneux, now the Hôtel d'Hallwyll, was built on Rue Michel-le-Comte in the Marais district, perhaps for the widow of Louis de La Palud, killed in 1704 at the siege of Verrue in Italy. Following the death of her three children, in 1718 Marie Henriette le Hardy gave the bare ownership of this hotel to her second husband, Nicolas-François Midorge.* In the 14th century, the La Paluds built the feudal castle of Bouligneux in the heart of Dombes. Coat of arms: On the right. Azure with an ermine cross and sinister azure with a sable chevron bordered with or, potent and counter-potent, with a gold chief charged with a lion passant gules. Count's crown, two unicorns in support. Its two Franche-Comté columns are topped with a pelican feeding its young with its blood and flesh, a metaphorical image par excellence of Christ and the Eucharist or Christian symbol of pity and sacrifice, topped with a listel with the motto CHARITAS and flanked by two MC monograms, barely legible. This MC monogram almost certainly belongs to Bertrand de Moreton de Chabrillan, born in 1671 in Lyon, who died in 1738 in Malta, a member of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem or Order of the Hospitallers and Commander of the Commandery of Salins (Jura) in 1696, which was the most important establishment of the Order in Franche-Comté. Genealogical and historical archives of the nobility of France from 1841: "Bertrand de Moreton de Chabrillan, born in Lyon on May 7, 1671, was admitted as a page to the Grand Master of the Order of Malta on October 12, 1682. His proofs were made at the Grand Priory of Auvergne on July 5, 1683 and received on March 20, 1686. He was Commander of Salins in 1696, of Salmonsens in Franche-Comté and of Lobis in La Marche." It is therefore likely that the couple were sponsors of a hospital establishment under the governance of Bertrand de Moreton de Chabrillan. Its weight is 289 kg.
