"Fireplace Plate Dated 1673 With Crowned Lighters From Burgundy (62x64 Cm)"
17th century fireplace plate, dated 1673 in perfect condition, decorated with three Saint Andrew's crosses, formed of two knotted sticks in saltire carrying in the heart a crowned lighter of Burgundy to which is attached the collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece, The one in the upper right corner is flanked on either side by the year 16-73 surmounted by small lighters, in memory of the declaration of war against France. The Comtois have kept the old cross of Burgundy, symbolized by the knotted sticks, in order to mark their allegiance to the house of Austria and Spain and their opposition to the French conquest of Louis XIV. Its weight is 49 kg.
