"Engraving, Reissue Of A Daring Caricature, Extracted From “le Suprême Bon Ton”"
"Les invisibles en tête-à-tête" copy no. 16 of a series of 30 fashion plates entitled "Le suprême bon ton" of the Parisian Satire caricatures illustrating the fashion at the beginning of the 19th century of wearing "poke" bonnets (bonnets that had a small crown with a large brim extending beyond the face). "Les invisibles en tête-à-tête" (title of the engraving) are the ladies who wear these bonnets horizontally which completely hide their face: they can only be seen from the front. The men place their heads inside these bonnets in order to converse. A woman, in the foreground on the left of the scene, in a white dress and flowered stole is seated, holding a fan and the man leans towards her: the handle of his umbrella is turned suggestively. In the background on the right, a woman dressed in an almost transparent pink dress, repels an enterprising suitor. In the background, two other ladies, wearing bonnets of the same type, are conversing facing each other. Height 29 cm – width 33 cm and visible 10 cm X 14 cm Well framed under dark green half-round baguette glass
