His family came from Racconigi, his father was in the service of the King of Sardinia. From 1748 to 1755 Vittorio Amedeo is mentioned as one of the students of the drawing school of Claudio Francesco Beaumont in Turin. Between 1754 and 1760 he painted the canvas of San Luca (kept at the Accademia Albertina in Turin) and the Annunciation for the church of the Santissima Annunziata in Turin. In 1768 he worked in Turin at the Royal Palace and in Stupinigi, where he painted for the chapel the altarpiece of the Vision of St. Hubert, considered one of his masterpieces. In 1778 he became professor of painting at the Royal Academy of Turin.
