The body of the cup is in rose quartz. It rests on a silver pedestal guilloché with wavelets and pink enamel.
The edge of the cup is highlighted by a silver and vermeil rim finely engraved with foliage and plant friezes.
The lid is a true little masterpiece of goldsmithing.
It is in vermeil superbly openworked with a dense interlacing of acanthus leaf foliage, flower bouquets and flaming torches.
The openwork work of the vermeil is magnificent, it is of great finesse, many details are chiseled.
Four cartouches left in reserve are guilloché with fine wavelets and enamelled in pink, recalling the pedestal.
A net of opaque turquoise enamel highlights the edge of the lid.
The whole is topped with an acorn-shaped grip in turquoise enamel (?) and vermeil.
The inside of the lid is in vermeil. A pink textile, recalling the enamel, is placed under the pierced part to highlight it by contrast with the vermeil.
The grip is fixed by a nut, which also holds the inside of the lid.
The mount is hallmarked:
. Boar's head for solid silver since 1838
. Goldsmith's mark: PG with a hunting rifle (?), most likely for Paul Guillon, active from 1899 to 1924
This object is probably a masterpiece of this little-known goldsmith, so remarkable are the preciousness and quality that emerge from it. Objects combining hard stone and enameled silver are rare and this cup is a superb example.
Each silver part is rich in details and finely worked with virtuosity.
This cup is a real little marvel!
