"“bateba Ti Puo” Statuette, Lobi People, Burkina Faso"
Statuette showing a character standing with his arms raised in a cross. This type of statue is part of the "Bateba" family. It is called "Ti Puo", which means dangerous. It was intended for a family altar and had the function of protecting the home against witchcraft and curses. The subject that I am offering you is entirely covered with a thick and crusty patina which suggests a long and assiduous use.
