"Jacques Le Tanneur (1887- 1935) “pelota Game In The Basque Country” Stencil 31 X 21 Cm "
Jacques Le Tanneur (Bordeaux 1887- Bordeaux 1935) "Pelota game in the Basque Country" Stencil framed under glass 31 x 21 cm Jacques Le Tanneur (December 6, 1887 in Bordeaux - January 20, 1935 in Bordeaux) was a French illustrator and journalist. Jacques Le Tanneur was born into a family of bankers. Le Tanneur attended the Sainte-Marie Grand Lebrun college in Caudéran. As a teenager, he suffered from tuberculous coxalgia of the left hip, which left him lame for life, preventing him from playing sports. He showed a talent for drawing from a young age. From 1907 he contributed drawings and articles to the bimonthly magazine Le Tout Elégant illustré du Sud-Ouest. He then published regularly in local titles such as L'Ouvreuse, L'Almanach gascon, La Petite Gironde. In 1909, in the company of Georges de Sonneville and Henri Ducot, he organized the "Salon des Humoristes" in Bordeaux, which exhibited Jean-Louis Forain, Francisque Poulbot, Caran d'Ache, etc. in the Gironde capital. In 1921, he was one of the founders of the Société des Dessinateurs et Fantaisistes Bordelais. In addition to his publications in the press, he illustrated books, catalogs, and designed bullfighting posters, advertisements, theater costumes, and clothing designs. His drawing style with clean lines surrounding flat areas of color can be compared to what would become Hergé's "clear line." From 1924, he led the Les Jeudis littéraires conference circle. That year, he began a series of columns for the weekly La vie bordelaise, a selection of which he would bring together in Les heures bordelaises. In 1926, he married Germaine Wortz-Hurpin. He spent a lot of time in the Basque Country, where he would become an ambassador through many of his works. After regularly spending his holidays as a child in Biarritz, he rented a house in Bidart from the beginning of the 1920s. Then he had the Pantxika-Baïta villa built there, completed in 1929. He collaborated with Commander William Boissel and the painter Philippe Veyrin, founders of the Basque Museum of Bayonne in 1924, and published several times in the Bulletin du Musée basque. Many of his works have been reproduced on postcards and on crockery from the Henriot earthenware factory. He was a friend of Ramiro Arrue, Francis Jammes, Pierre Loti, Rosemonde Gérard, Edmond Rostand. He died at the age of 47, on January 20, 1935 in Bordeaux. Bibliography: Books by Jacques Le Tanneur: Les heures bordelaises. Bordeaux: La Vie bordelaise, 1924. In the shade of the plane trees, chronicle of the Basque provinces.
