A pair of Louis XVI-style gilt bronze Love and Satyr candelabras after Clodion and Delarue circa 1850-1860
An elegant and decorative set with this pair of Louis XVI style candelabras with two finely chiseled and gilded bronze arms.
Our pair of candelabras depicts a Love and a Satyr seated on tree stumps. The two figures hold two horns of plenty in their hands, forming arms of light in chased and gilded bronze with attributes of the vine, resting on a Carrara White marble base with small spinning top feet.
These candelabras were inspired by original works created in 1770 by Clodion (for the Satyr) and Delarue (for the Amur), one of which is on display at the Louvre.
Art, love, and mythology are brought together in this pair of candlesticks, a French work from the mid-19th century, circa 1850-1860.
