"Jacques De Chastellus (1897-1954) Hst "return From Fishing In Brittany" "
Oil on canvas, signed lower right, "return from fishing in Brittany" Dimensions 70x62 cm, 90x82cm with the frame Jacques de Chastellus, painter and illustrator, painted Brittany in the 20s/30s. Born in Paris, he began his career as an illustrator in newspapers and periodicals, then moved to Belgium, Flanders where he contributed to the development of the Art Deco style. A retrospective was organized in 1989 in his city of residence and a monograph was written on this occasion. His paintings of Brittany in a very personal style, with bright colors, are sought after by collectors. Two of them were recently exhibited at the Musée du Faouet. He also illustrated many books. The naval anchor which accompanies his paintings indicates that he was appointed official painter of the Navy, doubtless in Belgium because there is no trace of him among the official painters of the Navy in France.
