HISTORY: Bakhtiari carpet is a Persian carpet. Its name is derived from the Bakhtiari tribe that inhabits the Zagros mountainous regions in southwest Iran (Persia). 1,600,000 people belonging to the Bakhtiari tribes currently live in Iran. There are more than 50 different designs and qualities of these rustic and nomadic carpets produced in this region. The panel designs representing gardens are the most sought after, followed by models with a central medallion and designs representing trees of life. Normally, all carpets are sold as Bakhtiaris, but in some cases of individual identification, they are named after the villages where they are produced such as Fereydan, Faradonbeh, Boldaji, Saman, Chaleshotor, Bain, Luri, Owlad... Occasionally, the carpets with the densest knotting can be called "Bibibaffs".
