This work dates from the first half of the 19th century -- around 1820/1850 -- and comes from the Volga region of Russia.
In the upper part of the composition, we see Mary who, during her appearance in the church of Blachermes in Constantinople, extends her veil as a sign of protection. She is surrounded by many saints and archangels.
This very fine icon is painted on gold in a miniaturist style with extreme care and an abundance of details. More than fifty saints are thus represented with their garments richly enhanced with gold on an architectural background representing the Blachermes church.
Perfect state of conservation without restauration.
