"Lidded Pot, Herend"
Openwork lidded pot with double walls, polychrome decoration and gold highlights, Wales model. Hand painted. Handle in the shape of a stylized turtle. Bearing the mark "HerendHungary Haindpainted 6412/CD" under the base. 20th century circa 1960 The Herend porcelain factory was founded in 1826 by Vince Stingl. In 1839 Maurice Fischer (1800-1880) creditor became co-owner and sole owner in 1840. Very creative and ambitious, he quickly found success and participated in numerous exhibitions from 1843. Vienna Exhibition in 1845. Universal Exhibition London in 1851 then New York in 1853 and Paris in 1855. The company specialized in quality artistic porcelain and reached an aristocratic clientele. After a few difficult years and the takeover by Jeno Fischer Farkashazy, the company once again enjoyed certain success. Gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900, in 1901 in St Petersburg, in 1904 in Saint Louis. It will continue to participate in numerous exhibitions and will be nationalized in 1948 then privatized again. The factory continues to produce pieces of Art porcelain, made and painted by hand, of a very high quality.
