Murano artisans were also among the first to develop techniques such as aventurine (adding copper particles to create a sparkling effect), filigree glass, and the inclusion of gold and silver leaf. These innovations allowed for the creation of visually rich pieces, often used to decorate palaces, churches, and the homes of the European elite. In addition, the families of master glassmakers jealously guarded their secrets, passing them down from generation to generation, which helped perpetuate the authenticity and uniqueness of Murano glassware.
