This is a bowl in a bowl lacquered with the traditional Tsugaru technique, from the north of Japan near Aomori. This technique consists of mixing black lacquer and red lacquer then sanding it in order to obtain a very thin layer with patterns. When the finesse is not obtained, the lacquerer uses the object in order to obtain another kind of lacquer which is qualified this time as wabisabi. the art of reusing an object.
