He studied in the studio of Gabriel Guérin in Strasbourg, then he entered the Eole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, in 1844, where he was a student of Léon Coginet. He appeared at the Paris Salon from 1847 to 1880, obtaining a gold medal in 1878 for the Universal Exhibition.
He made tapestry cartoons for various works, including: The Procession of the Gutenberg Festival and Promenade in the Lot Department.
