Painter of genre scenes, portraits, landscapes, draftsman and illustrator.
He began in his native country at the Academy of Antwerp.

Then he quickly settled in Paris. He was present in all the Salons of his time. His favorite subject, which conquered the collectors of his time, was a beautiful young girl in a flower garden at the end of the day.

He mastered like no one else the soft luminosity of the end of the day, thus highlighting the skin of his beauty and the bright colors of the flowers. The critics of the time praised his luminous works, marked by a lively poetic feeling, and denoting a fine sensitivity, combined with great qualities of harmony and composition.
