Documentation:
In the long Venetian tradition of glassmaking, the island of Murano certainly has a leading role, having contributed to preserving the secrets, traditions and techniques of this charming art for centuries.
It is in Murano that the Vetreria Artistica Colleoni glassworks has its headquarters, where - in parallel with production - it began a path of technical and artistic research, at the beginning of the third millennium.
Alesandro Barbaro was the master glassmaker of Colleoni. His talent, derived from the most commercial production, finds its maximum expression in figurative and conceptual creations, such as in particular optical effects on vases and aquariums, or in animal sculptures.
After the international success of the Colosseo sculpture at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas and the Double Fountain at the Europa & Regina Hotel in Venice, the maestro is working - supported by Diego Bardella, a glass artist and assistant glassblower - on a series of elephant tusks, each 5.90 feet (1.80 meters) long, which will serve as chandeliers in a German castle. He retired in 2010.
