Magnificent work by Miljenko STANCIC, an important Croatian artist of the 20th century Depicting a mother and child in an interior Miljenko Stančić (1926, Varaždin - 1977, Zagreb) graduated in 1949 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. He completed his higher education in graphic design in the class of Professor Tomislav Krizman in 1952. Later he was an assistant professor and professor at the Academy. He was also involved in illustration, graphic design and scenography. He was a member of the "Five" (Lj.Ivančić, I.Kožarić, V.Michieli, M.Stančić, J.Vaništa). He was considered a representative of surrealist painting in Croatia and art critics classified his works as magical realism, metaphysical painting, fantasy or phantasmagoric, new figuration, etc. Since 1960 he has exhibited with the Belgian group "Fantasmagie". He has exhibited independently in Zagreb, Belgrade, Varaždin, Rijeka, Vukovar, Split, Ljubljana, Paris, Brussels. Retrospective in Zagreb in 1971 and posthumously in 1981. The canvas measuring 64 cm x 55 cm is in excellent condition and has never undergone any restoration. It is presented in its original frame measuring 75 cm x 66 cm.
