The scene represents Ulysses, often depicted wearing the pointed cap, the pileus. He leaves a temple and accompanies his wife who seems resigned to the fate that awaits her. The old men on the threshold of the temple are crying and devastated. Is this the departure of Ulysses for his long journey?
