"Portrait Of Doctor J. Langlebert, Pen And Pencil Drawing By Clovis Didier, 1882"
In the 1880s, the publication of the illustrated catalogue of the SAF required artists to send a drawing of the painting they wanted to exhibit, so that an engraver could include this drawing in the catalogue. The drawing presented is autographed by the painter after his painting. A student of Emmanuel Lansyer, Jean-Léon Gérôme and Auguste-Barthélemy Glaize, he exhibited at the Salon des artistes français from 1880 and received an honourable mention there in 1914. In 1929, he presented the painting Chez l'antiquaire. Pen and pencil on Bristol board, signed lower left: Clovis Didier 1882. Annotation on the lower margin: Portrait of Mr. H... and the dimensions of the painting: 1m30 by 0.97m. The painting bears the number 857 of the 1882 salon and it is specified that it is Doctor Langlebert.
