"Watercolor And Gouache On Paper "young Mother Presenting Her Child" 63 X 48 Cm"
"Young mother presenting her child". Watercolour and gouache on paper. Signed top right Jean Launois (1898-1942). 63 x 48 cm. Jean Launois was born in Les Sables-d'Olonne. He spent his youth in Vendée, then travelled to Algeria and Indochina. In Algeria, he met Etienne Dinet (1861-1929) and Albert Marquet (1875-1947). Marquet's influence would then be significant in the art of the young Vendée painter. Traumatized by his participation in the two world wars, he died alone in a hotel room in Algiers in 1942. Appreciated by critics and the public, Launois painted the people of the casbah, the prostitutes of Algiers, the opium smokers of Laos and the peasants of Vendée, without make-up or prejudice, but with a touching sincerity. The Museum of Modern Art preserves several of his works. Related work: Portrait of Antoinette Guiochet, wife of Alain James d'Ayzac. Oil on canvas (1922), signed, dated and dedicated "To Antoinette" lower left. Sale Nantes January 19, 2022 Couton-Veyrac. Lot No. 480. 49 X 39 cm.
