"Oil On Canvas Portrait Of A Bearded Man 19th Century Gilded Frame Stamp Jérome Ottoz"
Here is a quality portrait to be placed in the second part of the 19th century, it represents a man from the bourgeoisie wearing a finely trimmed beard, a frock coat. The work has not been restored or prepared, we must accept the defects, we note small marks on the painting in places, small gaps on the frame, however it remains presentable. Jérôme Ottoz (installed at 22 rue La Bruyère, supplier of Corot, Fromentin, of whom we have a portrait by Degas). The works bearing the same stamp "Ange Ottoz, rue de la Michodière, n°2" are dated from 1830 (Dubuffe), 1855 (Fromentin) to 1868 (Corot). This merchant from the rue de la Michodière was initially succeeded by Fontaine Gaillon (Albums de Corot, 1868) then Henry from 1884. Jérôme Ottoz was born in 1819. He was a paint merchant, supplier of canvases and friend of Corot. He died in 1885. His son, Émile René Ottoz (1863-1934) was a painter and restorer of paintings.
