Generally placed at the foot of altars, these sober or ornate ewers are used (always) to pour water into bowls to be presented as an offering.
In modest families or temples, ewers made of less precious materials, earth or earthenware are in use.
There are also superb ones made of silver.
In Tibet, in each family, as in all temples, there is always one or more altars, generally Buddhist.
In front of the statues or paintings of divinities, a traditional series of objects is placed. Some are intended to receive offerings: "mandal" receiving cereals, yak butter lamps, ewers like our model, incense burners, "eight auspicious signs", .....
