This Sculptural Model in solid Elm called "all wood" Chair, with recessed grip in the mass of the backrest and 4 faceted feet inserted directly into the seat. Clean design brutaliste designed in 1972 by Pierre Chapo and manufactured in his own workshop in France.
Mr. Pierre. Chapo was born in Belleville in 1927 into an artisan family and grew up in Berry, in Vierzon, where he first expressed his artistic sensitivity through painting. It was his meeting with a marine carpenter that was the trigger for an original work characterized by functionality, harmony of proportions and the telluric energy contained in the wood. First enrolled at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, specializing in architecture, he met Nicole, a painting and sculpture student, who would become his wife and lifelong accomplice. With her he traveled to Scandinavia, Latin America and the United States, absorbing the ways of thinking and doing of local artists.
From his first creations, the designer's work emerges in sculptural forms resulting from a unique work of solid wood (and in particular oak, ash and elm). Often visible, the assemblages are the only ornaments that Chapo tolerates, the general harmony coming from the proportions he chooses to give to his furniture. Combining traditional artisanal know-how with contemporary design influences, Chapo's furniture echoes the purity of Frank Lloyd Wright and Charlotte Perriand as much as Scandinavian designers and their work with wood. Always with the importance of functionality as a guideline.
Piere Chapo also loves Alsatian architecture, half-timbered houses and above all the popular, proven furniture where family and friends meet for meals and winter evenings. struck by the traditional Alsatian Chair, the oldest of which bears the mélèsime 1686, decided in 1972 to pay homage to it, he designed the S28 by retaining the structural basis, but by purifying it of its decorative elements. the Silhouette is modern but retains the comfort and shapes of the traditional Alsatian
