"Small Sloping Desk In Blackened Pearwood And Amboyna, Napoleon III Period – Mid-19th Century"
This small sloping desk opens with a drop-leaf flap, with a mitered frame, in blackened pearwood inlaid in the center with a floral arrangement in light wood, on an amboyna burl background, surrounded by geometrically shaped fillets. This flap, mounted on a dovetail brass hinge, is fitted with an original lock with a rear key and inlaid entry. The interior offers a writing area covered in black leather with cold-stamped and gilded vignettes, corner and central motifs. A sliding shelf with a brass tab provides access to a reserve. These elements are topped with three small drawers in speckled maple with turned rosewood knobs as well as a niche in the upper part. The belt and the sides, slightly shaped for the latter, also have identical marquetry composed as a reminder of light wood and amboyna burl. This piece of furniture rests on four arched legs with hump and whiplash with amboyna burl edge. The assets of this small sloping desk are undoubtedly its small size, its marquetry in precious woods worked with great mastery. ******** Period: Mid-19th century Excellent condition.
