In the 18th or 19th centuries, it was not considered good form for young lovers who were not yet married to kiss in public. On the other hand, moments between friends were conducive to rapprochements as evidenced by some games, where when couples lost, it was customary to give them a pledge and sometimes the possibility of giving each other a kiss: this is the case of the kiss at the Capucine where the lovers sit back to back, hold hands and must give each other a kiss on the lips by neck gymnastics.
