Agard Charles Jean – Academy: Male Nude Seated From Behind – Signed And Dated

Academy of a seated man, seen from three-quarters back. We will admire the balance of proportions, the naturalness of the posture and the sureness of the line.
The work is signed and dated lower right (13 – 5 – 1925)
The work is in good condition, clean. It is placed under glass, surrounded by a mat, in a sober black frame.

The artist
Charles Jean Agard was born in 1866 in Dordogne. He obtained a scholarship to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In the capital, he frequented Pissaro, Sisley and especially Puvis de Chavannes who encouraged him to exhibit his works. From 1893, he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants, then at the Salon d'Automne and at the salon of the National Society of Fine Arts. He died in the Paris region in 1950. He painted many landscapes, still lifes, portraits. His works (and in particular his academies) have been the subject of numerous public sales. Some of them are exhibited at the Louis-Senlecq Museum of Art and History in Isle Adam.
