"Antique Porcelain Gilt Floral Jug, Dresden Style, Germany, 19th "
Antique hand painted porcelain jug with floral patterns, with a gold trimmed top edge, the handle is decorated with a gold pattern, the gilded bottom. The jug is decorated with all sorts of flowers all over the body, a classic example of “Dresden spray flowers”. The piece characterized by incredible detail and careful elaboration of all elements. Dresden was an important centre of this artistic, cultural and intellectual movement, which attracted painters, sculptors, poets, philosophers and porcelain decorators alike. The Dresden style was a mixture of German and Vienna flower and figure painting. Later, such names as Franziska Hirsch, Ambrosius Lamm, Carl Thieme and Helena Wolfsohn become synonymous with Dresden style.The early Dresden porcelain famous for its featured finely detailed, brightly colored painted scenes, often with ornate gilding. Some of the most popular early designs included figurines, tableware, and vases, which were often adorned with floral motifs, landscapes, and other decorative elements. Beautiful Dresden porcelain adorns many museums and private collections of the world.
The Dresden porcelain companies often took part in industry, art, and world expositions. Numerous gold medals from Antwerp, Chicago, Paris, or Dresden document not only the high quality of the finished goods but also the significant artistic skills of the modelers, sculptors, and painters. Dimensions: Height 22,5 cm, width 13 cm, depth 17 cm, weight 773 grams.
Condition: small crack in the enamel on the upper edge of the jug - it is the enamel, not the jug body itself - nothing visible from the outside. Small stain-yellowing of the enamel near the crack – was checked with ultraviolet light - no traces of breakage and restoration. Small scuffs to paint and gilding, but generally excellent preservation of all paint, enamel and gilding.
