Large late 19th century bronze sculpture with a golden patina bearing the signature STEINER (Léopold STEINER 1853-1899) Regionalist composition depicting a young Breton woman and her child near a fountain. Good condition, dimensions: 72 cm high X 22 cm wide X 22 cm deep / Weight: 15 kg Léopold Clément Steiner is a French sculptor born on March 7, 1853 in Paris, he entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and followed the teaching of François Jouffroy and Aimé Millet. He created allegorical groups, genre scenes, busts and statues of great men: Le-dru-Rollin, Berryer, Rouget-de-l'Isle. He participated in the decoration of the private mansion of Prince Roland Bonaparte, avenue d'Iéna in Paris and that of the castle of Franconville. He is also the author of the Renommée de l'Industrie in gilded bronze which surmounts one of the pillars of the Pont Alexandre III on the left bank. He is also the author of sculpted decorations for various castles and private mansions and of a two-metre-high bronze group: Berger et Sylvain in Briançon. We can also mention, at the Salon, La Cigale in marble (1887), Jeune Homme au chat, bronze statuette (1891), and several plaster or terracotta statuettes representing contemporaries. He received a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1889 for his entire body of work.
