"Portrait Of A Young Gentleman By Louis Léopold Boilly (1761-1845), Attr.to"
The masterfully neoclassical portrait of a young man was executed around 1800 - 1810 and due to the very close manner, the motif and time of creation have been attributed to the hand of the French portrait painter Louis-Léopold Boilly (1761 La Bassée - 1845 Paris). In addition, the small format (14 x 18.5 cm) and the oval format are typical of the artist. A number of his paintings vividly document the social life of the French middle class of his time. Boilly was also highly respected for his portraits, producing many portraits of the middle class and other famous contemporaries.
