"Marc Lalanne : Rare 18th Century French Solid Silver Chocolate Pot - Bordeaux 1769-70"
Rare Bordeaux chocolate pot in solid silver from the 18th century resting on three original feet with cut-out bases. Magnificent pouring spout with multiple projections, and monogram engraved on the base of the body (see photo). The hinged lid ends with a movable disk (intended to let a frother pass through) topped with a spinning top button. Blackened wooden side handle. Hallmarks (body and lid) for BORDEAUX 1762-70, Common House Hallmarks for BORDEAUX 1769-70 ('&' topped with the Crowned B), Countermarks and Hallmarks of the Master Goldsmith Marc LALANNE dit fils received in 1750. Rare Bordeaux chocolate pot of very good quality in good condition and well hallmarked, light points and micro-scratches from use. The rarity of this piece lies in the fact that it is a real chocolate pot. In Bordeaux, we count almost exclusively coffee pots and, to a lesser extent, teapots in terms of pourers. This is in line with Mr De Dromantin's reference work, which only lists one chocolate maker.
Do not take into account the reflections in the photos.
