18th century
The Buddha is represented seated on a double base in the meditation posture: legs in the lotus attitude (vajraparyanka), hands placed in his lap (dhyana mudra), the back of the right hand resting on the palm of the left hand. He is dressed in the samgathi, the monastic habit, leaving the right shoulder uncovered, a piece of the cloth placed on the left shoulder and falling in a straight line on the navel. The face with great gentleness is characterized by perfectly curved eyebrows overhanging almond-shaped eyes with closed eyelids indicating a deep meditative state, a small hooked nose surmounts a small half-open mouth with thin lips. The skull receives the cranial protuberance (usnisa) from which emerges a high rasmi, the ears with distended lobes symbolizing the royal origin of the Buddha.
