,Restoration to the fringes and edges. A huge and rare rug for sale.
The American Sarough rug was originally designed to satisfy the American market.
These rugs were initially woven with light, rust-colored backgrounds, which did not appeal to the American market, which demanded darker and more intense colors.
As a result, the rugs had to be re-dyed upon arrival, which earned them the name "painted Sarough".
The designs of Sarough rugs are very varied and abound with interlacing plants and flowers like our model.
They can feature central medallions, rustic designs and pale floral patterns in cream, indigo, red or salmon.
In the center, in the mountains of inland Iran, north of Arak (formerly Sultanabad), is the city of Sarough (or Sarouk).
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this place was one of the most active carpet weaving regions in Iran.
Persian carpets from very large to the smallest sizes were knotted here, among the most refined of the time for large houses and for the booming hotel industry.
Following the strong Western demand, most Sarough carpets were exported, especially to the United States.
The decline of these carpets came with the First World War.
It is mainly their quality, their resistance and their style that made Sarough carpets so popular.
Knotted with the Persian knot, made of a high quality robust wool, with a very thick and dense pile, the Sarough carpet is very resistant and is ideal for interiors.
Our old model has very slight wear due to its age, the restored edges are impeccable, the fringes short and clean, it is a finely tightened carpet, of very good quality.
This carpet has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
