His works evoke all types of ships, from fishing boats to ocean liners and cargo ships, including large sailing ships. They are touching in their sincerity, their precision, their maritime interest, and in the freshness and liveliness of the artist's talent. He was the official painter of the Navy from December 1935. In 1937, he was commissioned to paint a painting of a submarine in a storm for the officers' mess hall of the Cherbourg submarine base. On the eve of the declaration of war, in June 1939, he made himself famous with a symbolic coup: he stormed the Minquiers at the head of a flotilla of fishing boats, attracting the wrath of the maritime prefect of Cherbourg. Mobilized in 1939, he was a cipher officer on board the Strasbourg, from August 26, 1939 to September 7, 1940. In this capacity, he took part in the fighting at Mers el-Kébir (French Algeria). During the war, he was given several commissions by the Secretary of State for the Navy, on the battles of Mers el-Kébir and Dakar, for the first Navy exhibitions organized in Vichy, in 1941. The Navy Museum also asked him for representations of Charcot's expeditions and on solo navigation. In 1947, he embarked on the cruiser Montcalm to the American base in Norfolk, the Antilles and Casablanca. In 1959, he embarked on the cruiser Colbert to the North Cape. In 1962, he embarked on a crewed world tour financed by French Radio and Television (RTF), following in the footsteps of Dumont d'Urville, Bougainville and La Pérouse. He married Germaine Fauchon de Villeplée, with whom he shared the same great-grandparents, Pierre Michel François Truelle-Chauvinière and Elmire Rose Frémont de La Châtaignière. Indeed, one of the daughters of this couple, Azeline, married the mayor of Domfront (Orne) Anthyme Durand (1820-1872), while Alexandrine married Victor Fauchon. Marin-Marie spent a lot of time in the Channel, particularly Granville, the Chausey Islands and Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët, where his wife was from, where he took up residence, and where he died. He is buried in Vezins, a commune associated with Isigny-le-Buat. Marin-Marie left behind a superabundant and remarkable pictorial oeuvre. His delicate watercolours all bear witness to his love of the sea and are highly sought after by art and seascape lovers. In 2010, his heirs entrusted his personal archives to the Departmental Archives of La Manche: Diaries, correspondence, photographs, sketches, etc., approximately 1,500 documents, are now gathered there, representing 19 linear meters. In 2015, an exhibition entitled "A sailor's story, archives and memories of Marin Marie" was presented in this place from July 6 to October 30, which gives a broad overview. In May 2021, his painting Three masts under sail (watercolor and gouache on paper) was sold for €38,500 at a sale at the Bayeux auction room (Calvados)
