"Capron "herbarium" Coffee Table"
Coffee table with trays composed of glazed stoneware tiles, "herbarium" decor. Blackened iron base. Signed Capron, Vallauris, France; Circa 1970 Roger Capron (1922-2006) Trained by René Gabriel during his five years of apprenticeship (1938-1945) but also by Swobada and by the sculptor Robert Wlérick. Close to Robert Picault, they joined forces to create a pottery workshop in Vallauris, the Callis workshop. Jean Dervall joined them in 1948. In 1952, he bought a disused pottery without Robert Picault but with whom he kept very strong bonds of friendship. First exhibition in Paris at the Salon des métiers d'Art. In 1953, there were 7 of them in the workshop. Gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1954. Silver medal at the first international exhibition of European ceramics in Cannes. Thanks to his success, he became international and the workshop now had around thirty people. He now turned to decorative panels and won the gold medal at the international exhibition of architectural ceramics in Brussels in 1958. The workshop became a factory in 1963. International exhibition in Paris the same year. In 1970, he received the Grand Prix International de la Céramique in Vallauris. He participated in the Biennale Internationale de la Céramique in Vallauris in 1972, 1974, 1976, 1979 and received numerous awards.
