JOYET (Jean) was born on May 25, 1919 in Saint-Victurnien (Haute-Vienne) and died on April 12, 1994 in Colombes (Hauts-de-Seine). Painter, engraver, lithographer and sculptor at the École de Paris, he was admitted to the studios of the painter Jean Dupat and René Jaudon for lithography. Winner of the Casa de Velazquez prize, Jean Joyet stayed for two years in Madrid, from 1951 to 1952. This stay as well as his admiration for Goya profoundly influenced his work as a painter and engraver. His landscapes and bullfighting scenes, but also his caricatures of French politicians engraved on copper, bear witness to this influence. In the 1960s, Jean Joyet painted maternities, children, nudes, and devoted himself more and more to sculpture.
